A solution in Spain: CO2 plant for Bakery products
Johnson Controls has recently completed an innovative cooling plant for bakery giant Europastry, at one of its manufacturing centres in Spain.
The final design utilised an ammonia and carbon dioxide (CO2) cascade plant with a system that offers a total internal volume of around 86,000 m3. Johnson Controls also installed a computerised control system that ensures optimum performance and efficiency.
The installation of this type of system was so successful that six other installations have been completed at other Europastry sites.

The low stage CO2 plant has a cooling capacity of 1606 kW. It supplies low temperature liquid CO2 to ten Güntner air coolers in the cold store. The high stage ammonia plant operates with a minimal charge. The plant features 3 screw compressors for NH3 and 4 reciprocal compressors for CO2. It also features 2 BAC evaporative condensers. |
